The Happy Hobby Doll & Teddy Bear Show |
|
The Happy Hobby Doll & Teddy Bear Show, on Sunday, June 25, 2006, will not only feature all kinds of dolls and related items but this year there will be exhibitors showing old and new teddy bears for sale. Teddy bear collecting is one of the largest hobbies in the United States and worldwide. Ever since Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear, unfairly restrained for his convenience a hundred years ago, the bear has been the toy of choice for many generations of children. Collectors prize the early Steiff bears made in Germany and modern-day bear artists create many unusual creatures and reproductions from a large variety of materials and much imagination. The Doll & Teddy Bear Show will be in the Alton Central School on School Street in Alton, NH. The show opens at 9:30 AM and runs until 2:00 PM. Adult admission is $3.00 and children under 12 are admitted for $1.00. There is plenty of free parking. Cate Avery is the featured guest for the day. She has been making polymer clay figures for over ten years and her creations are full of fun and whimsey. Cate is a member of the Concord-based Academy of American Doll Artists where she has found support and has taken classes in her art. She has exhibited at the New York Toy Fair and has had dolls published in the Contemporary Doll Collector magazine. Other attractions at the show will be free verbal appraisals, doorprizes, a raffle for Santa's Workshop dollhouse plus vendors of all doll and teddy bear related goodies. Everyone can partake of the lunch available in the school cafeteria at a resonable cost.
