Principal’s
Newsletter of
Volume 5,
Issue 3 J Fitzpatrick, Principal November 1, 2008
Please note:
Tuesday, November 11, there is no school in observance of Veterans Day.
Report Cards are enclosed with this
newsletter.
In May of 2008, students of the Class of 2009
participated in the Science portion of the New England Common Assessment
Program (NECAP) given by the State of
Last
week, PMHS experienced a first: we had to evacuate the building and send
students home early. To summarize the
event, a sprinkler head in a girls’ bathroom on the second floor was activated
by a couple of students. There was a
tremendous amount of water released in a short period of time, thus flooding
the second floor bathroom, the surrounding area, as well as the first floor
directly underneath. I am happy to say
that at no time were any students in danger.
However, the reason students were sent home was because the fire alarm
system could not be reactivated until the sprinkler system was recharged, which
was going to take a little while. And of
course, we cannot allow students (or faculty) to remain in a vulnerable
building. I also want to point out that
many students helped with the investigation as they provided leads and answered
questions. I credit those who came
forward with information to help resolve this situation.
Despite
the above incident, there have been a lot of positive things that have happened
over the past few weeks. For starters,
quarter one came to a close last Friday and, as I’m sure you are aware, report
cards are enclosed in this mailing. If
you have a question about your child’s grades, please contact the respective
teacher.
I
also want to congratulate Jamie Bolduc and the Drama Club for the successful
completion of the play, High Spirits,
which ran from October 23rd through 25th. If you have ever been to a Drama Club
production, you know that we have a lot of talented actors/actresses at PMHS
and they delivered once again.
I
also want to congratulate all of our fall sports teams for making it to their
respective post-season tournaments. I
had the pleasure of introducing the senior soccer girls for their final home
game of the year. (You can check out
their picture below.) PMHS will
recognize all of our athletes at the fall sports banquet on November 13th
at 6:00pm. Feel free to join us.
In
the meantime, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not
hesitate to contact me at 875-8800 or at jfitzpatrick@pmhschool.com. And, don’t forget to check out the school’s
Website at www.pmhschool.com.

Arielle
Atkins, Kim Grant, Dani Sheehan, Casey Beranger and Lexie Couch are seniors on the Girls Varsity Soccer Team.
The
College Board recently announced the AP Scholar Awards. This award is given to students who receive
grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. The College Board’s Advanced Placement
Program (AP) provides motivated and academically prepared students with the
opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school,
and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful
performance on the AP Exams. About 18
percent of the 1.6 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a
sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award. This year the College Board is recognizing Jacob
Browning, Tony Castagnaro, Megan Farrell, Ryan Finethy, and Derek King as AP Scholars. Congratulations to you all!
Nick Ianotti has been selected to attend Jazz All-State
this year. He is the first PMHS student
to be awarded this honor. Congratulations, Nick!
If
your child will be absent from school, please inform the main office by calling
Laurel Cristaldi at 875-3800 ext. 3149. Making this call will mean that the office
does not have to call you to let you know that your child did not arrive at
school. Thank you for your cooperation.
If
your child will be dismissed early from school and you know about it ahead of
time, please send a note in with your child stating the time of the
dismissal. The student should give the
note to Mrs. Grant. Mrs. Grant will arrange
to have your child meet you at the front entrance of the school at the time of
the dismissal, which will cause less disruption of classes. Thank you for your help.
Picture
Retakes will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Please obtain a form in the main office for
picture retakes.
Mrs. Jane Smith was recently

The teachers and professionals that work with your
child on a daily basis want your child to be successful at PMHS. In order to help monitor the students in the
freshman class, a team has been established to oversee them. This Freshman Team consists of teachers,
administrators, guidance counselors as well as the school social worker. It is our hope that through communication and
support for your child that all freshmen will be successful academically and
socially.
As part of the monitoring process, the Freshmen
Team receives feedback from the academic teachers regarding each student’s
behavior, effort and academics. The
following list of students received a certificate on Thursday, October 16th,
because they received high scores in these areas.
We encourage you to continue to provide support for
your son or daughter so that his/her success continues throughout the year.
Sincerely,
The
Freshman Team
